Job Title: Technical Writer/Editor II

Job Summary:

This position is in support of the Marine Corps Tactical Systems Support Activity (MCTSSA). Working for the Marine Corps Tactical Systems Support Activity (MCTSSA) involves providing crucial technical support and innovation for cutting-edge tactical systems utilized by the Marine Corps, contributing directly to the effectiveness and efficiency of military operations.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Developing clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation for MCTSSA's new STRL personnel management system and related processes
  • Collaborating with subject matter experts, developers, and stakeholders to understand system functionality, policies, and requirements
  • Conducting research and analysis to gather technical information and documentation requirements
  • Writing, editing, and maintaining system user guides, training materials, process documentation, and standard operating procedures
  • Ensuring documentation adheres to established standards, templates, and style guides
  • Incorporating feedback and updates from review cycles to improve documentation accuracy and usability
  • Assisting in developing content for Federal Register notices, public communications, and policy documentation related to the STRL personnel system
  • Supporting knowledge transfer and change management activities through clear and effective technical writing
  • Maintaining a central repository for technical documentation and knowledge assets

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, English, Journalism, or a related field
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in technical writing or content development roles
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to understand and translate complex technical concepts into clear, user-friendly language
  • Familiarity with documentation standards, styles, and best practices
  • Knowledge of common documentation tools and content management systems
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously
  • Basic understanding of software development lifecycle and IT service management principles
  • Proven experience in developing technical documentation, user guides, and training materials
  • Experience with document version control and collaboration tools (e.g., SharePoint, Git)
  • Ability to quickly learn and understand new technologies, systems, and subject matter areas

Desired:

  • Familiarity with Human Resources policies, personnel management frameworks, and federal regulations
  • Background in writing for government, military, or technology-focused organizations
  • Knowledge of instructional design principles and e-learning content development

Work Setting and Environment:

  • Monday - Friday, normal working hours
  • Work is to be performed at Camp Pendleton, CA
