The Senior Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Analyst works closely with senior management to enhance the company’s financial performance by assisting with the development of financial plans / forecasts and providing actionable insight to optimize financial results.
The Senior FP&A Analyst assists with the development of the company’s planning and forecasting function, providing analysis and insight into financial results to explain actual versus plan results in addition to providing rolling financial forecasts based on underlying drivers of the business. The role also acts a business partner to the various underwriting groups within the company providing support in the form of tools and templates, analysis of BU level results and ad-hoc requests. The Senior FP&A Analyst is responsible for aligning annual operating plans with the broader strategic business plan to ensure long-term strategic objectives are on target. This role works closely with the reserving actuaries to ensure consistency in segment and regulatory reporting.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Create a more efficient financial planning and reporting process to enhance the analytical data used by management in decision making.

Source the data needed to project financial results including a P&L and balance sheet. The data should be produced at a level that provides sufficient granularity to gain insight into the drivers of the business.

Review existing processes and procedures to develop recommendations to enhance efficiency.

Partner with other functional areas e.g., Business Development and Underwriting to ensure timely and accurate completion of financial projections.

Develop and maintain a driver based forecasting process providing management with a rolling six quarter view of financial results. Leverage the process to streamline the formal planning cycle.

Enhance and maintain the planning application and continuously strive to automate the process.

Provide guidance and mentoring to less senior staff on the team.

Integrate the planning system with all relevant financial applications.

Work with Corporate Finance management to ensure the integrity of financial data across the various financial reporting systems and processes.

Ad-hoc analysis, projects and research as needed to support business needs.
Education, Requirements & Competencies

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.

At least 4-6 years related experience and/or training in insurance financial planning and analysis, insurance accounting, or insurance public accounting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CPA, CFA, or MBA a plus.

Excellent communication skills with a proven ability to effectively engage senior management

Experience with planning and forecasting software e.g. Essbase, Adaptive, etc. preferable.

Advanced modeling skills in Excel.

Experience and understanding of Statutory accounting principles {SAP} as well as US GAAP.

Ability to research and resolve complex issues
Base salary range is $99,000 - $116,500. Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors that are unique to each candidate including location, skill set, experience, qualifications and education.
