Job Description
Needed: A motivated engineering student excited about being part of a team responsible for prototyping the next big Bose innovations. The Rapid Design Engineering group fuels the Concept Prototyping engine at Bose. We are a small but versatile team that is looking for a motivated co-op who can complement the organization with a broad technical skillset. We’re looking for someone who can generate creative ideas and take initiative to make them a reality. This individual needs to thrive in a fun and fast-paced environment. This is a mechanical engineering role, and requires experience in designing, experimenting and building. The ideal candidate would have fundamental understanding of adjacent disciplines (materials, electrical, software, etc.).
Responsibilities:
  • Be a part of a small interdisciplinary team of engineers and designers to design and build quick turn prototypes for internal Bose customers
  • Collaborate with various disciplines and functions to produce works-like, looks-like, feels-like, sounds-like models of Bose product concepts
  • Develop proof-of-concept models to demonstrate and test future Bose innovations and experiences
  • Quickly turn concepts into physical parts utilizing our internal rapid prototyping capabilities including machining, waterjet/laser cutting, welding, 3D printing, molding, etc.
  • Employ the engineering design process to rapidly design, iterate, test and optimize parts and assemblies
  • Combine knowledge of CAD with fabrication methods to create fixtures, model parts, and anything else you want to make—be creative!
  • Bring a friendly, positive attitude to work, with the ability to comfortably interact with many different types of people all day every day on a personal and professional level
  • Take a hands-on approach to building prototypes and making improvements to the Rapid Prototyping area
Requirements:
  • Moderate to strong base in CAD design—Siemens NX preferred, Solidworks
  • Basic understanding of various fabrication and prototyping methods such as machining and 3D printing
  • Pursuing Mechanical Engineering degree or similar
  • Comfort with use of power tools, and respect for safety while operating potentially dangerous machinery
  • Ability to clearly communicate and receive direction and feel comfortable asking as many questions as it takes to clearly understand what someone is asking you to do.
  • The desire to innovate and make cool things, and have fun doing it. We’re looking for someone we can rely on when it counts, but also have a good time with!
  • Previous co-op/internship experience a plus
