About the position
Kongsberg Automotive has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Manufacturing Engineer in its Suffield, CT facility. The ideal candidate is a passionate professional who enjoys a fast-paced environment with endless opportunity. The Suffield plant is unique in that it has a wide and diverse product and customer base, manufacturing PTFE tube stainless steel braided hose for the automotive, industrial and commercial vehicle markets.
The Manufacturing Engineer role works independently and with process integrators to design and launch robust manufacturing processes and tooling. The role will own and/or maintain existing manufacturing processes and all necessary quality documentation related to the manufacturing process and production. The Manufacturing Engineer is expected to aggressively seek a balance between manual and automated processes and create objective tools to quantify this. The position will report directly to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager.
Responsibilities
The Role:
- Will own the design and function of machines and tooling, relevant quality documentation for the complete product lifecycle.
- Communicate with process integrators and work independently to design and launch manufacturing processes and tooling for new products.
- Support Design Engineering with DFM feedback.
- Support Design and Quality Engineering with root-cause analysis of manufacturing problems.
- Assist with feasibility assessments and quote support to Sales and Program Management for new business and engineering change proposals.
- Support Maintenance Engineering and Production with machine troubleshooting.
- Propose and assist with cost-saving process improvement projects.
- Design and procure/fabricate tooling as necessary to support Production.
- Train Supervisors and Operators on machines.
- Create work instructions, tooling charts, setup checklists, or any other documentation that improves process robustness, cycle time, and changeover time.
- Assist with new product prototypes.
- Use SAP to create part numbers and collect manufacturing data when needed.
- Maintain health & safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
Requirements
The ideal candidate must have:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical / Industrial Engineering or technical field
- 1-2 years' experience in DFM role
- 1-2 years' experience working with mechanical, pneumatic, electric, and electronic machinery in a manufacturing environment
- Able to read GD&T, complete tolerance studies, and interpret dimensional data
- Ability to create PM schedules, machine manuals, and operator work instructions
- Experience using tools and working on mechanical equipment, etc a plus
- 3D CAD experience (Solidworks)
