Overview:
Carollo Engineers is an internationally recognized environmental engineering firm that specializes in the planning, design, and construction of water and wastewater facilities. We are seeking an entry level Mechanical Engineer to help with process mechanical engineering designs for renewable energy and other process mechanical projects seen at wastewater treatment facilities. Examples of the type of mechanical engineering Carollo Engineers performs are boiler and heat loop design, gas handling and compression, cogeneration (combined heat and power), renewable natural gas systems, blowers, pumps (clean and wastewater), and other process mechanical related systems.

This posting is scheduled to expire on 6/2/2024 if the position has not been filled prior to that date. Preferred location for this position is Boise, ID if candidate is not located in Colorado.

Responsibilities:
  • Performs basic mechanical engineering tasks and calculations for water and wastewater treatment facilities under the direction of experienced mechanical engineers
  • Performs heat demand calculations, boiler sizing, pump hydraulic calculations, piping layout, and models both compressible and incompressible fluid flow using specialty industry software
  • Performs pipe sizing and pressure loss calculations
  • Review of submittals and shop drawings during construction
  • Performs specification research
  • Assists in development of technical memorandums
  • Review your own work for discrepancies or inconsistencies
  • Tracks details of work to discuss and resolve
  • Assists senior engineers with technical standards development
  • Develops and improves technical knowledge and skills
  • Maintains professionalism in relationships with other office and team members
  • Plans what needs to be communicated and how to present the information effectively
  • Seeks out company and client technical standards and implements them on projects
  • Constructively builds and maintains relationships with others on the project design team
  • Travel required when requested
  • Makes site visits to observe construction progress and facility operation
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 0-4 years experience in Mechanical Engineering
  • Course work in thermodynamics and fluid dynamics
  • Engineer-in-Training Certification
  • Ability to work as part of a project team consisting of senior level engineers, CAD technicians, and other support staff
  • Working knowledge of thermodynamics, hydraulics, and fluid flow theories
  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to learn quickly
  • Capable of breaking a task into one or more component parts and sequencing those parts effectively
  • General awareness of need for practicality and constructability of design solutions
  • General awareness of the scope, schedule, and budget assigned for engineering tasks
  • Ability to work with more experienced mechanical engineers to apply standard textbook mechanical design and analysis approach
  • Ability to follow selected design approach through completion of analysis and detailing
  • Ability to listen to others and ask clarifying questions at appropriate time
  • Ability to perform multi-step tasks
  • Willingness to accept suggestions and corrections on design skills, organization, and planning issues
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills that are well organized and persuasive
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Public speaking experience (speaking in front of a group of stakeholders)
  • Experience with hydraulic modeling programs
Pay Range:
$65,000 to $90,000 (if position is filled in the Broomfield, CO location) annually. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting, depending on experience. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs. Salary range listed is for the Broomfield, CO location.
