CTL|Thompson, Inc. is looking for a full time Civil or Mechanical Staff Engineer to work at our Fort Collins, CO office. The successful applicant will work on a variety of material and product testing activities that include both laboratory testing and full-scale field load testing. Strong desire and ability to provide client-focused service are required. Experience or knowledge of load testing, materials testing, welding, properties of metal and plastics, material chemistry, failure analysis and/or fixture design/fabrication is desirable.

Staff Engineers are paid an annual salary between $55,000.00 and $85,000.00 plus discretionary bonuses. Our offer will be based upon individuals experience and qualifications. Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Preparing testing samples using a variety of hand and power tools
  • Operating laboratory testing machines (Compression, Tension, Torsion)
  • Collecting test data in an accurate and precise manner
  • Performing duties according to an established 17025 Quality Program
  • Assisting with development, design and fabrication of test fixturing
  • Periodic domestic travel to client facilities for sampling, auditing or testing activities
  • Writing proposals, reports, and letters
  • Providing engineering consultation
  • Attending project meetings
  • Marketing
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills and ability to learn new software in a timely manner.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent knowledge of current code requirements as appropriate for position.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Solidworks, or similar.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate and work well with a team.
  • A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Education and Experience:

  • B.S in civil, geotechnical or related engineering field.
  • 0-5 years of relative experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • The ability to lift/push/pull up to 75 lbs. is required.
  • Ability to walk around constructions sites with uneven and varying terrain.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.

Work Environment:

This job operates in both an outside, field environment, in an office setting. Regular work on computers while in the office. While working in the field, will be exposed to extreme weather conditions, including rain, snow, cold and heat. Routinely uses PPE and other safety equipment. Work will primarily be project focused but client interactions will be required.

  • Satisfactory completion of a drug test from a laboratory certified by Colorado and chosen (and paid for) by CTL|Thompson, Inc. The laboratory will collect and test the drug test samples, for which the required notice will be included with any employment offer and for which the required consent forms will be provided by the laboratory.
  • A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record in accordance with the company automobile insurance policy guidelines.
